				<div><p>Registration is now open for the MGT 344 Advanced Incident Management/Unified Command class in June.</p>
<p>The MGT 344 Advanced Incident Management class is a two day class that will be held June 5<sup>th</sup>and 6<sup>th</sup>&nbsp;from 8:00am to 5:00pm each day.&nbsp; This class will provide an explanation of the skills necessary to plan for and manage a large-scale incident by utilizing the NIMS ICS approach.&nbsp; The course has been declared ICS-400 compliant and equivalent and may be substituted as such.&nbsp; For those of you who have staff which need ICS 400, this is the opportunity to have them complete the class locally at&nbsp;<b><span style="text-decoration: underline;">NO COST</span></b>.</p>
<p>Attached is a flyer with dates and prerequisite requirements for the class. <p><b>Do you want to know more about emergency preparedness legislative requirements and how they may affect your system?</b></p>
<p>Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is hosting a one day training session in Fort Bend County.  The training session will be held at the Fort Bend County - Rosenberg Annex Building from <b>9am- 12pm on Thursday, September 22nd</b>.  We invite water system owners and operators to come and learn how they can prepare their system for emergency water operations.  At the training event we will cover the newly revised Emergency Preparedness Plan (EPP) template and the steps that will be required to receive EPP approval.  We will also have staff onsite to answer questions and walk through the EPP template with you.</p>

			<title>Public Information Officer and Joint Information Center Training</title>

				<div><p>Media Consultants will conduct its 2-day PIO/JIC training on April 6-7, 2011, co-sponsored by the Brazoria County and Fort Bend County Offices of Emergency Management and LEPCs. The course is divided into four 4-hour modules; you can attend any or all four modules (see page 2). The entire course is recommended for all Incident Commanders, Public Information Officers, Joint Information Center staff, and Media Spokespersons for any local, state, federal agency, school, hospital, private sector industry and non-governmental organizations who would work together to respond to any emergency under the National Incident Management System (NIMS).</p>
<h2>Instructors</h2>
<p>The class will be taught by NIMS-certified Instructors Chuck Wolf and Bob Gresser from Media Consultants, a Houston-based crisis communications firm. Chuck and Bob have served as Public Information Officers and Joint Information Center specialists during the BP oil spill, Hurricane Katrina, and EPA/USCG exercises for over 20 years. <h2>Training Location</h2>
<p>This classroom training will be hosted by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service in its 1st floor auditorium located at 21017 County Road 171 in&nbsp; Angleton, TX 77515. You will be emailed a link to a map with driving directions to the building after you register for the training.</p>
<h2>Online Registration</h2>
<p>You must register online at: www.mediacon.com/register.asp You can register yourself and others from your organization. Classroom seating is limited and filled in the order you register. You&rsquo;ll be notified by e-mail within 24 hours whether or not seats are available.</p>

<p>The 2-day PIO/JIC course is divided into 4 modules; you can attend any or all of the modules:</p>

<li><b>Module #1: NIMS IS-702.a (Public Information Systems)</b><br /><i>Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.</i><br />Learn the PIO&rsquo;s responsibilities under Incident or Unified Command and how the PIO must establish a Joint Information System (JIS) under NIMS; just updated by FEMA in June 2010, this course must be completed by all PIOs under NIMS 5-Year Training Plan.</li>
<li><b>Module #2: Basic PIO Skills</b><br /><i>Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from 1:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.</i><br />How should a PIO communicate with the media and public? Define your key messages,write a news release or EAS Warning, discover traditional and social media tools, learn how to conduct telephone and in-person interviews, and handle tough reporter questions.</li>
<li><b>Module #3: National Response Team Joint Information Center Model</b><br /><i>Wednesday, April 6, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.</i><br />Just adopted in October 2009, this new national JIC model can expand to fit any size and type of emergency; you&rsquo;ll get org charts, job descriptions, sample forms and checklists to set up, equip, and operate a JIC with local, state, federal, and other Response Partners.</li>
<li><b>Module #4: JIC Tabletop Exercise</b><br /><i>Wednesday, April 6, 2011 from 1:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.</i><br />Students who attend the NRT JIC Model training will be assigned PIO and JIC roles, then explain how they&rsquo;d set up a physical and/or virtual JIC to deal with a major hurricane and other hazards, and communicate with the media and public during this Tabletop Exercise.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Tuition</h2>
<p>Tuition is $75 per module or a discounted total of $260 for all four modules &ndash; save $10 per module. Each student receives a workbook, handouts, pen with highlighter, and refreshments; lunch is on your own. Pay online by credit card or by mailing a personal or company check.</p>
<h2>Prerequisites</h2>

<h2>Final Exam</h2>
<p>After completing the NIMS IS-702.a training, each student will need to pass an online Final Exam in order to receive NIMS certification. Students who complete all 4 modules will receive a Media Consultants &ldquo;Certificate of Training&rdquo; for this 16-hour NIMS-compatible PIO/JIC course.</p>

<p>ADVANCED SKYWARN&trade; &nbsp;This class is NOT for the novice spotter. It is recommended that spotters go through two (if possible) basic spotter training sessions before attempting the advanced training material. Spotters should be comfortable with the basic concepts of storm structure and storm spotting. They should have a desire to learn the latest concepts of tornado and severe thunderstorm behavior.</p>
