Fort Bend County EOC Activated - Situation Update 1

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Fort Bend County activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at 7:00 am today. The EOC is partially activated and staff from the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) are monitoring the snow situation closely.
- A significant amount of snow is falling, especially in the southern parts of the county.
- Several inches of slush are currently building up on roads.
- Temperature is expected to drop to freezing in the afternoon, and stay at or below freezing until tomorrow morning.
- Dangerous road conditions may be present after freezing temperatures set in.
- Public Transportation is cutting back service in response to the weather conditions. Commuter service provided by TREK is shutting down at 12 Noon; and only medically-related demand responsive transports will be made after 1:00 pm. The County's Public Transportation Department is coordinating with area Senior Centers and dialysis centers to ensure safe transport for those who are at such facilities.
- All non-essential county employees are being dismissed at 12:00 noon today.
- School Closure information is still coming in, and will be posted on district websites when available.
- Katy ISD announced an early dismissal: Secondary campuses at 12:35 and Elementary campuses at 1:40
- Fort Bend ISD: Still on regular schedule
- Lamar CISD: Still on regular schedule, but evening activities cancelled
- Needville ISD: will be releasing students at 1 PM today. Buses will run their regular afternoon routes at that time. All NISD activities scheduled for tonight have also been cancelled.
- Stafford Municipal School District: after-school student and athletic activities have been cancelled for Friday
- SafeSchoolAlerts.com is operated by the Harris County Department of Education and is posting school closure information for much of the region.
