Advanced PIO training for FEMA EMI
August 3-6 and September 21-24 vacancies
FEMA still has seats available for its 4-day "Advanced Public Information Officers" course E-388 at the Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, Maryland. At this time, 32 vacancies exist for the resident (on-campus) course scheduled for August 3-6, 2009, and 34 vacancies exist for the course scheduled for September 21-24, 2009. There is no cost for local, state, or federal government agency PIO's to attend this training. Free rooms and meals are provided on the EMI campus, and qualified individuals may be reimbursed for their travel expenses.
However, vacancies are filled in the order that FEMA Form 75-5 applications are received. Send your completed application to the State Training Officer James Kelly with the Texas Governor's Division of Emergency Management (GDEM) in Austin for approval. Email your application to: james.kelly@txdps.state.tx.us or fax to 512-424-5647. The Texas GDEM will then forward approved applications to EMI Admissions.
Applications for course vacancies must be received at least six (6) weeks before the course start date for the Applicant to be considered for the course. Any vacancies within six (6) weeks of the course state date will be filled from EMI's wait list, so it's important to apply early.
